Li Li meets with head of BPOM of Indonesia

On Nov 11, Li Li, commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met in Beijing with a delegation led by Taruna Ikrar, head of the Food and Drug Supervisory Authority (BPOM) of Indonesia.

Li recalled the history of cooperation between China and Indonesia in drug regulation and introduced China's drug regulatory work and the development of its pharmaceutical industry.

He said that in recent years, the NMPA has continuously improved its regulatory and standard system, safeguarded the drug safety, accelerated the market approval of new and good drugs, constantly improved regulatory quality and efficiency and deepened international exchanges and cooperation, so as to promote the development of modern drug regulation that is scientific, law-based, and up to international standards.

Taruna Ikrar said the BPOM highly values its cooperation with the NMPA. He also presented Indonesia's relevant initiatives to enhance collaboration among the regulatory authority, academia and industry, promote technology transfer and boost the development of the pharmaceutical industry.

The two sides exchanged views on topics such as multi-regional clinical trials (MRCT) for drugs, regulation of production facilities, information technology development and smart regulation. They agreed to further deepen exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in drug regulation to facilitate the availability of more high-quality pharmaceutical products for the benefit of the people of both countries.

Heads of relevant departments and affiliated institutions of the NMPA were also present.
