NMPA deputy commissioner meets with PMDA chief executive

Xu Jinghe, deputy commissioner of China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met with a delegation led by Yasuhiro Fujiwara, chief executive of Japan's Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices Agency (PMDA) on Jan 7, 2020.

Xu introduced China's progress in drug and medical device regulatory reform as well as the newly promulgated Vaccine Administration Law and Drug Administration Law. He reviewed the two countries' achievements in bilateral cooperation in 2019 and proposed new areas and events for future collaboration.

Fujiwara briefed the meeting on PMDA's recent progress and welcomed the proposals made by the NMPA. He said that he hopes to deepen communication and strengthen bilateral cooperation in drug and medical device regulation.

The two sides agreed to promote pragmatic cooperation and to provide mutual support in the effort to enhance drug and medical device safety and ensure people's health in both countries.
