The Traditional Medicine Regulation and Industrial Innovation Forum, a parallel session of the World Conference on Traditional Medicine 2026, was held in Beijing on Oct 18. Yang Sheng, deputy commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), attended the event and delivered an address.

In his remarks, Yang called for safeguarding the quality and safety of traditional medicines through high-level regulation, promoting international exchanges on traditional medicines through standards harmonization, driving industrial innovation through technological empowerment, and advancing exchanges among traditional medicine civilizations through mutual learning, so as to make new and greater contributions to building a global community of health for all.

The forum brought together more than 300 representatives of regulatory authorities, relevant international organizations, academia, and industry from more than 10 countries and regions, including China, Europe, Africa, the United States, Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Serbia, as well as China's Hong Kong and Macao.

Focusing on two main themes — international registration and standards harmonization of traditional medicines, and post-marketing quality regulation and pharmacovigilance — participants exchanged views on regulatory frameworks, standards systems, and whole-lifecycle management practices for traditional medicines. The forum produced a consensus outcome document titled Good Regulation Promotes Access to Quality Traditional Medicines.
