Li Li meets with head of Brazil’s Health Regulatory Agency

Li Li, commissioner of China's National Medical Products Administration (NMPA), met with a delegation led by Antonio Barra Torres, head of Brazil's Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa), in Beijing on Oct 21.

Li gave a rundown on the development of regulatory work and the pharmaceutical industry in China and said that, in recent years, the NMPA has been adhering to the path of scientific, law-based, international and modern development, focusing on deepening the reform of the drug evaluation and approval system and promoting international cooperation. These efforts aim to safeguard the health of the people and advance the high-quality development of the pharmaceutical industry under strict, efficient and fair regulation.

Torres introduced the responsibilities and work of Anvisa before the two sides discussed the coordination of international rules, their response to drug shortages and regulation on export drugs.

They agreed to further enhance exchanges and cooperation to promote convergence, harmonization and reliance in international regulatory rules for drugs and medical devices.

Officials from related NMPA organizations and affiliated institutions attended the meeting.
